My building journey started in my Grandpa’s basement around the time I was 8. Every summer we would visit and head down to the tool room. I built boats, cars, and random toys for years. These early lessons taught me more than just how to use a variety of tools - they taught me how to connect with my Grandpa through one of his passions, woodworking.
I went on to build a treehouse with my other grandpa and my cousins when I was 10, built a treehouse with my father at 12, helped to re-shingle a roof at 14, demolished walls and learned framing at 15, and helped my father build a bar in his basement at 18. Subsequently, I went on to launch a handy man business in college while also working for a local apartment owner getting units ready for new tenants. I’ve done several home remodels and updates. Through it all, I have had a passion for building, remodeling, and working with my hands.
In 2022, I built a treehouse for my own kids. Having lost my grandpa years ago and my father in 2021, I’m fortunate enough to have inherited some of their tools. My recent build was more than for my children - it was reestablishing a connection I had with my own heritage. I hope a Backyard Roots treehouse will bring the same to your family.
